Home Project: A $2k Powder Bath Refresh
Hi everyone! My powder bath project is done, so I thought it was time to share with you a photo of the completed space as well as the project details. As a reminder, I’ve lovingly dubbed my home #SABRreno and you can see past projects here.
With any project, I like to identify a few key elements first: the budget, the goals for the space (both in terms of form and function), and any non-negotiables. This particular space was done in a very budget-friendly way and my goal was to spend less than $2,000 without any DIY. Non-negotiables included making only cosmetic updates and keeping all the existing plumbing fixtures.
This project had a "jumping-off" point: a design selection around which the entire space was centered. And in this project, the jumping-off point was the wallpaper. My mom had used this wallpaper in her own home and had several rolls left over, so when she offered them up, I gladly took them.
The Costs, The Budget, and The Design Board
With any project, especially when budgets are tight, you’ll likely need to compromise. In this space, I would have loved a new vanity, mirror, and faucet. I would have also loved to have painted the paneling but at this season in my life, time is scarce, and the budget didn’t allow for re-painting, so the board & batten stayed as is.
Now, when it comes to wallpaper, I do not recommend attempting to hang traditional wallpaper yourself, even if you’re a DIY lover. So, I hired a local installer that I’ve used in other client projects.
I’m happy to report my total cost for this space came in under budget. The below shows the estimated costs at the start of the project and directly below are the actual costs, with red font denoting the changes from the estimate to actuals.

Ta-da! Below is what the powder room looked like before and what it currently looks like. Another “no demo reno” project for the books and one that successfully balanced the budget with aesthetics.
